Tuesday 28th May 2024

09:30-16:15 (UK time)

On Campus @ University of Sheffield

About the Taster Day

This taster day gives you the opportunity to experience what studying chemistry is like at university. You will spend the morning in a chemistry lab, participating in practical work to synthesise aspirin. You will also prepare your own aspirin sample using techniques such as reflux synthesis. In the afternoon, you will work alongside analytical staff to characterise your aspirin samples using infrared spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.

Who is this taster lecture suitable for?

Students in IB1 who are interested in studying Chemistry at university.

Please note: Applications close on Monday 13th Mary 2024.

Please do not register to attend if you have any lessons or other pre-planned activities which may overlap with this taster day, unless you have received authorised permission to do so.
